EE customers will be able to access BT Sport channels, thanks to a new deal.
BT has also unveiled plans to stream the BT Sport Showcase Freeview channel on YouTube for both the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League finals, on May 18th and 28th.
EE’s customers will be offered BT Sport this summer, in order to prepare for the 2016/17 football season. The offer will be available to 4GEE customers and the prices have not yet been announced. This will be the first cross-company deal that the two brands have offered since BT’s acquisition of EE was completed back in January at a cost of £12.5 billion.
Since BT Sport was launched three years ago, around five million households have subscribed to it. Last year, BT spent £960 million on acquiring Premier League football rights.
A spokesperson for BT said that the company wanted to give ‘top quality sport’ back to the people, and streaming both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League finals for free on Youtube achieves this. He added that the company was also hoping to bring BT Sport to a younger generation of fans who get their entertainment online and on their mobile devices. The company is hoping to make the two UEFA finals ‘social’ with a lot of content in the build up and on the match nights across YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Vine and Snapchat.
The Champions League final will be a Madrid derby as Real Madrid play Atletico Madrid in Milan. The Europa League final will witness Liverpool take on Spanish side Sevilla, who are the reigning champions.
A representative for YouTube spoke of how the company ‘love football’ and added that they were ‘thrilled’ to give supporters in the UK more ways to watch matches. He added that football is the biggest sport for YouTube, with the company playing host to more than 300 football clubs, 37 leagues and several channels from BT Sport through to UEFA.
